The Me vs. Me War – Herbs for Autoimmune Disorders, Histamine Intolerance & Chronic Allergies

When I was at university, I used to cut across the golf course instead of taking the long way around the drive. One day on my way to an exam as I was running across the golf course around noon, I ran into a whole lot of flies, just flies. My face began to itch like crazy. When I reached the building where the exam was, I rushed to the bathroom and discovered to my horror that my face and neck were covered in huge red welts and swollen up – I was unrecognizable. I did the exam anyhow, but it took several hours for the welts and swelling to subside and I never ran across a golf course in the heat of day ever again.

It was one of my many brushes with histamine intolerance. That’s when the body reacts to something like an insect bite, and then reacts wildly to those substances that are supposed to fight whatever foreign substance entered via the insect bite.

It’s the body fighting it’s own self.

And that’s the core of nearly all auto-immune disorders, histamine intolerance, chronic allergies. On every level, if you look at it, it’s a civil war inside the person.

It’s a slug fest of you versus you.

To heal from autoimmune and histamine disorders, chronic allergies etc., the war of Me versus Me must stop. I have found that the Me versus Me battle, is usually based on us behaving with our own selves like we’re tough loveless school masters. Starting to treat our own selves with emotional understanding and the love that’s beyond the rules, changes everything.

But this article is about herbs that help us on the path to peace between Us and Us.

If we get relief from the symptoms of autoimmune and histamine disorders, it makes life so much easier and the same plants that help physically also help energetically to steer us in the right direction.

Herbs for Autoimmune Disorders, Histamine Intolerance & Chronic Allergies

Heather – Calluna Vulgaris

This lovely wild plant holds us together. If ever we needed a unifying force, something to hold us together through the extreme experiences our body is going through, it’s now.

My Grandad once bent a Heather plant a certain way, gently around his finger while he sat there for hours. The next time he was there he saw it still sort of had that bend to it, so he twined it around his finger again. It ended up growing that way. At the end of the season the plants died for the winter. To my Grandad’s delight, a year or two later, he found in the same place a new plant with the same bend as the one that had grown twining around his finger. Somehow through the whole process, Heather’s soul remembered him.

That’s the soul memory Heather has. It brings up our soul memory too. This helps us resolve our differences with ourselves. All our Me versus Me problems are because of not being in touch with our soul and spirit priorities in the first place.

On a physical level Heather detoxifies the body in lovely gentle ways.

Quis Qualis Indica

What can I say about this one? The magic of footpaths and lazy afternoons and warm evenings. When your body is experiencing a lazy afternoon and nothing’s stirring and all your cells want to do is say, “It’s too hot to anything, I’ll just lull here and forget the world…” Then a beautiful fragrance comes in from somewhere… so soft yet so enlivening… and you say, “Quis? (What is it?!)” and “Qualis?! (From where is it coming?!)” And then your brain slowly comes out of the afternoon stupor and your heart feels a little hungry for life, and that smell comes tantalizing at you, and you decide you might as well move just a little bit, oh ok… I’ll turn around maybe, oh ok…. I’ll maybe bend off the side of the bed and see where that smell is coming from… Oh can’t see anything, ok I’ll roll off the bed and crawl to the door and pop my head out and see what’s happening… Oh.. where IS that fragrance coming from?!

Next thing you know you’re outside like a police dog – otherwise just another fat-ass Labrador – on the trail of your first drugs haul at the airport.

That’s how Quis Qualis affects our cells, especially the lymphatic system which is the catch-all of all the toxins that don’t get get through out of the body in a timely fashion.

Finding out what we love, finding what motivates us, these are critical in finishing the war of Me versus Me. It changes EVERYTHING.

Golden Seal – Hydrastis Canadensis

This stunning flower grows on the flower in shady forests of North America. You’ll agree with me, it takes a special sort of courage to grow – so soft and tender and beautiful on the floor where you could get trampled by any number of animals. Golden Seal apparently doesn’t care; from the dawn of time to now, generations of Golden Seal have been born and lived and reproduced without a problem, right there on the forest floor.

In the body I find it turns the very core of the being, in the deep of every cell, like a fan being turned on on the forest floor that sends air moving upwards and out, cleaning out, reorganizing.

Corruption is anything that doesn’t fit in with your purpose.

Golden Seal reminds cells of their own purpose, and the cell remembers and begins to throw out what doesn’t match its purpose and slowly the whole body and system remembers its purpose and that’s how it gets things cleared out.

Reminding our systems of our purpose is so important to end the war of Me versus Me so the different parts of us can connect despite conflict because of being motivated by common purpose.

On a physical level Golden Seal is the expert at throwing out nervous toxins and is even used as part of several cancer treatments.

Elecampane or Inula

There’s a sort of ‘cramp’ that sets over the heart and lungs in those with autoimmune problems and histamine disorders. It happens because while the war of Me versus Me is going on, very often the full heart and the vibration through the lungs and body that follows cannot go through fully because of constriction in-between as a result of confusing energy patterns.

It’s like when you reach for the ice cream on the super market shelf and then before your hand actually reaches it, you pull your hand back. Imagine that happening in the heart and the lungs and then the rest of the system.

Over time a sort of rheumatism of the heart and lungs and perhaps the rest of the body too sets it.

Elecampane is a simple beautiful herb that believes in ‘Just do it.’ It helps the unraveling of knotted up tense nerves of the internal organs.

Elecampane unravels. Just remember that much.

Yerba Mate (Ilex Paraguayensis)

Mate is a herb that helps the body, especially the heart and lungs deal with fluctuation in blood pressure, altitude, energy shifts and so on. It helps all those symptoms that are the result of jerky sudden shifts and changes.

Every mood we’re in, every feeling, every experience makes these changes and Mate helps those who have gone helplessly overwhelmed by the changes and now have problem overreacting or under-reacting to things.

Blue Flag (Iris Vers.)

Blue Flag’s like this ancient instrument – called a ‘plumb line’ or a ‘plumb bob’. It has something heavy at one end and a string. And what it does is, you drop the heavy bit down and the string bit, will stand at a perfect right angle to the earth. It would show you if a wall was being built crooked, and you know you cannot have a building with walls that aren’t actually straight.

Blue Flag’s got the ability to compare a cell’s manifestation or physical being and working, with it’s energy body. It just knows this. Like those grand mothers that just know with their backs turned, whether you’re telling the truth or a lie, whether you’re well or unwell. It just knows. And what happens is, its knowing wakes up the cell’s knowing and the cell will naturally try to re-align to its own self.

For this reason, on both an energetic and a physical level Blue Flag inspires the body to throw out patterns of cell behavior, that do not match the cell. It has been known to correct even inherited energy patterns that do not match the dna. That means it helps the body and the DNA recover from the effects of conditions experienced by the ancestors that could be latent (like the syphilis, gonorrhea genes) or manifested – like chronic allergies and so on.

It helps in the war of Me versus Me because it reminds us of what we consider is right for us, and we can accept our truth and live by it and end the war.

Seashell Powder or Diatomaceous Earth

The Me versus Me war’s battlefield is most often the gut, the digestive system. The gut is filled with tiny nerve endings from end to end – and is constantly affecting every thing that happens in the body and in our lives. If it is well, the body is able to deal with things. If it isn’t the body says, “Enough is enough,” and refuses to tolerate anything other than the most basic life functions, leaving some toxins hanging around the body and over-reacting to some others.

Diatomaceous Earth’s like putting mud on the fire. The best way to put a fire out you know… put wet mud on it.

It’s got a lot of calcium and earth nutrients like that as well, which is great and very helpful, but the best thing is, without causing any hyper reactions it cleans out the digestive tract, and makes the cells feel normal.

That feeling of normal, should be easy to come by, but if you’ve read this article so far, you know it’s not that easy to come by.

Good old mud eating is the thing to make a person feel normal after extremes and ups and downs. Normal and grounded.

When you start taking it though, the initial detoxification might make you feel a little under the weather as it does throw out intestinal worms and the like, but stick with it, it’s just earth. Take care to get food grade diatomaceous earth and not the version that’s just to keep ants and pests away.
